Bohemian Heritage
Karen is a descendant of Michael Krippner, one of the Bohemians who arrived in New Zealand in the 1860’s. She has taken an active role in keeping the Bohemian Culture, Dance and Music alive.
A member of the Bohemian Association, Karen publishes the Homelander News having taken over the role from her mother in 2013. She also plays the button accordian and can dance a mean polka!
The Wenzlick Family also of Bohemian descent settled in Kereta and Waikawau. Kereta B & B was built by one of the Wenzlick Family in the ’60’s and it is fitting that it still has a connection to their heritage with it’s current owners.
The Wenzlick Family have a website showing the history of the area.
